Soda Stream Review from CSN Stores

A while back (December to be exact..yikes am I behind the times) I was given the opportunity to review a product of my choosing from CSN Stores. Since my husband's birthday is in December, I went with a SodaStream at home soda maker. What a perfect gift for the soda addict that he is. I chose the Genesis Bundle in Chilly Red that came with the main unit, 2 reusable specially designed 1 liter bottles, a CO2 canister (which happens to be refillable), and a sampling of their soda line.

I was so excited to give him this gift that I can't believe I actually waited 'til his birthday to give it to him. He was very impressed with the soda maker and was also super excited to be able to make his own soda.

The instructions were very easy to follow. We inserted the CO2 canister, screwed on the bottle of water and pressed the button the specified amount of times to carbinate the water. The directions say the water must be chilled but we've used water right from the tap with no problems.

What's nice about this at home soda maker is that you can control the fizz! I like more carbination and the rest of the family prefers less. I also like that it's more enviromentally friendly than buying bottles from the store, not to mention, cheaper! Along with the soda machine, I ordered a 1 gallon box of Dr. Pepper soda syrup from Sams Club online. Since the concentrates are different for different soda's, we had to play around a bit with the ratio. The box of Dr. Pepper did, however, say 5 parts carbinated water to 1 part syrup.

The CO2 canister is refillable and can be filled at local soda distributors or paintball/airsoft stores.

I highly recommend this SodaStream for any soda or seltzer drinkers! This is well worth the money!

Gregory is a robot lover so his mom asked for cupcakes with robots on top. I just happen to have a Cricut cartridge with robots on it! I made these little guys with gum paste and airbrushed the colors. Greg loved them!

Polar Bear Birthday cake

This was a fun and special cake for me. EllenRose is a very brave 11 year old cancer survivor. She loves polar bears and this is the cake I made for her. Each bear represents someone in her family, the bears on the top being herself (with the orange ribbon representing leukemia) and her mom and the bears on the board are her little sister Erin (who happens to be one of my son Max's favorite people!) and her dad. The diving bear was a last minute addition. EllenRose loved her cake so much that she wouldn't cut it for a few days and even took the bears off to save. I LOVE it! Happy Birthday sweet EllenRose! Here's to many, many more!

Everything on here is edible. The crown was cut out with my Cricut Cake machine and I just layed it over my sifter to dry to give it shape. I added the "rope" part of it with gum paste also and airbrushed it silver. The ribbon roses and leaves are fondant and gum paste wand.

CSN Store Review: Bazoongi Kids Circus Tent

I was contacted by CSN Stores to do a review back in the summertime. I was so busy this summer that I never really had a chance to get my post done. So...here it is!

I picked this tent out for Luke as his big brothers went back to school leaving him all alone with Mom after having playmates all summer long. I ordered my tent after hours of searching and trying to decide what I wanted to review. CSN Stores has over 200 different websites selling everything from air compressors to platform beds to kids toys to exercise equipment. CSN Stores offers free shipping on tons of different items, which I absolutely love. More often than not I won't order from a site if I have to pay insane shipping charges. Another feature of CSN Stores I love is they have a low price guarantee! If you see the product you like on another site for cheaper, you just click on the link and follow the steps to let them know. They will match the price to keep your business! Shipping was super quick and Luke's tent arrived via UPS.

The Bazoongi Kids Circus Tent is no longer available at CSN Stores but they do have several other Bazoongi Kids products to choose from including the smaller version of this one the Bazoongi Kids Special Edition Circus Tent. This particular tent is really big and that's why I chose it. I knew that Luke's brothers would want to get in it with him. The dimensions are 61" H x 54" W x 54" D. The entrance is on the smaller side but even I fit inside the thing. It's very cute and colorful.

The tent itself is made of water-resistant canvas-like fabric and the structure is made of collapsible fiberglass poles. The poles work on an internal rubber band type system and they all snap together. The poles are quite difficult to put together and once they're together, they do easily come apart so this is not for rough housing. The tent comes with a detachable floor and inside the tent fabric are ties to attach it to the pole system. Another criticism I have of this particular product is that it doesn't come with a bag for storage.

After our first use, one of the poles broke rendering it useless. I called CSN Stores for a replacement and they not only sent me the broken pole, but an entire set of poles for the tent! Overall, Luke loves his tent and has much fun playing with it. It's a bit more involved to get together so if you're looking for a quick put-together-and-play item, skip this one.

Gerbera Daisy Wedding Cake!

I had the pleasure of making a wedding cake for today for a woman I go to church with. I also made her 75 wedding cake shaped cookies for favors.

The bottom and top tiers are 4 layers of chocolate cake with 2 layers of chocolate raspberry truffle filling and a middle layer of vanilla buttercream. The middle 2 tiers are vanilla 4 layers of vanilla cake and 3 layers of vanilla buttercream. They're covered with fondant and I made the black detail using fondant cut with my cricut cake. I decorated it with handmade gum paste gerbera daisies airbrushed pink.

My cookies were decorated with pink details, gum paste flowers with sugar pearl centers and a monogram made out of sugarveil cut in my cricut.

"Hooked" Bridal Shower Cake

This cake was made for my son Max's teacher, who we LOVE, so it was extra special! I made a 3 tier cake- bottom layer was chocolate with chocolate raspberry truffle filling and a layer of vanilla buttercream, middle vanilla cake with vanilla pudding and vanilla buttercream and top layer strawberry cake with strawberry filling and vanilla buttercream. I covered it with fondant and piped on the quilted pattern with royal icing. The topper was called "Gone Fishing" and was chosen because of the grooms love of fishing. Where each line meets I put a white sugar pearl. I hope she liked it!

I made this cake for my niece's birthday. She turned 12 and is obsessed with peace signs. It was a pretty simple cake to make, 2 layers of vanilla with vanilla pudding and fresh strawberries. I covered it with white fondant and airbrushed it black. The peace signs are cut by hand out of fondant and airbrushed and the name I cut out using my new Cricut Cake machine.

Have a look at what I received from UPS yesterday! This was a very generous and thoughtful gift from my boys' godfather and Luke's godmother! Can you imagine? And not only did he send me that, he got me a bundle with the machine (that comes with cake basics cartridge), Elegant Cakes cartridge and a package of frosting sheets! I'm telling you I was like a little kid getting the best gift imaginable! I have been wanting this since my mil showed it to me. Oh the possibilities....

Phillip and Curly...you have no idea how very special this gift is to me. I'll think of you every time I use it (and I hope that's often!) This will indeed take my decorating to the next level. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Pink Princess Cupcakes

I made these pink princess cupcakes for a friend's daughter. She did beautiful face painting at my son's birthday party last year and I wanted to return the favor. I made the crowns and lettering out of fondant. The crowns were stars and I cut the bottom 2 points off and cut out gem and star shapes to look like crowns. I dried them over my rolling pin. They were airbrushed pink and brushed with luster dust.

Garden Cake

I made a 2 layer vanilla cake with vanilla pudding in the middle, covered with vanilla buttercream (I guess they like vanilla.) I made the gardener out of gumpaste and it was quite a learning experience....I learned I need LOTS more practice! I made the dirt out of crushed chocolate graham crackers and chocolate cake. The rake and garden shovel are fondant and the vegetables are made with royal icing. NOTE: I did give him hands after I took the picture. I also fixed the border where my 21 month old tried to stick his finger in...never a dull moment!

This is my new favorite cake! The lady that ordered it sent me an invitation for the bridal shower and I pulled design ideas from that. This is 1 tier of vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and 1 tier of chocolate with chocolate raspberry truffle filling. I covered it with fondant. The flowers I made with gumpaste and airbrushed. This was my first time making gumpaste flowers, I might add. The butterflies are also gumpaste that I airbrushed and then brushed on silver luster dust. The tiles are fondant squares that I individually airbrushed. This was a really fun cake!

Cookies for my Church Cantata

I'm in my church's choir and have been for a few years now. I really love it and it holds special meaning for me. It was at a Christmas Cantata that my mother-in-law brought me to that I was saved! Tonight is our Spring/Easter Cantata called "Eyes of Faith" and I made these cookies for fellowship hour afterwards. They took a long time but I love doing them!

I made these for a friends daughter for her class. I made green buttercream frosting on vanilla cupcakes. Sitting on the buttercream are sugar cookie bees and fondant flowers dusted with petal dust. I dabbed the cookie icing in the centers of the flowers and covered with yellow sugar.

I made the road in the shape of a 3 with fondant and luckily my son had a train set with brand new electrical poles and signs. This was my first "real" wedding cake. It was a 4 tier cake covered in ivory fondant. The top and bottom tiers were 4 layers of chocolate cake and 3 layers of chocolate truffle filling, raspberry jam and fresh raspberries. The 2 middle tiers were 4 layers of vanilla cake and 3 layers of vanilla buttercream. The bride provided the leaves for the cake and I made a sort of scrolling design on each layer with royal icing.

It was lots of fun to make and definitely a learning experience! I'm looking forward to my next wedding.

I made these cute cupcakes for a friend whose son was having his 4th birthday. I made spiders, ladybugs and caterpillers out of fondant and sat them on top of my "grass" covered cupcakes.

Halloween Wedding

I made this for a couple who was getting married on Halloween. My impression was that the marriage was a side bar to the Halloween party...lol. They were dressing up as "the bride and groom of death" as the lady put it. Not my thing, but whatever. I made chocolate cake with homemade strawberry filling and I covered it in fondant. I made black fondant roses and made spider webs with royal icing and accented with silver dragees. The skull on top was the only non-edible thing.

This is a cake I made for a little boy whose family's house burnt down a couple of weeks ago. When I asked what kind of cake he wanted, he said chocolate with blue frosting and a giant chocolate bar on top. Obviously being being artsy I couldn't just plop a candy bar on top. This is what I came up with. I decorated it with M&M's, chocolate covered tootsie rolls, snow caps, malted milk balls and mini chocolate bars. He loved it and I was so happy to see his eyes light up when he saw it!

My eldest son Zachary turned 11 last month and can you believe he didn't want a cake? Pff.... So he had some buddies over for a sleepover, homemade pizza and a matinee the next day. I made him an ice cream cake for he and his buddies to share.

I baked a brownie in the bottom of a spring form pan and then put it in the freezer until it was icy cold. Then I quartered 2 kinds of ice cream sandwiches, regular vanilla with chocolate cookie and one from Blue Bunny caked birthday cake. I alternated them all around the outer edge of the pan then froze it again. Then I layered his choice of ice cream flavors, first was moose tracks then a layer of crushed chocolate cookies like oreos (the generic ones are cheaper and you can't tell the difference in an ice cream cake!). Then the next layer of ice cream was dutch chocolate then more crushed cookies and topped with cool whip. I garnished it with halved cookies and some fun confetti sprinkles. It was fun to cut into the cake and see all the different layers in it. I had a picture of it cut but I must have deleted it by accident because I can't find it :-(.

This was a big hit with all and it lasted a long time! My husband kept commenting on how good it was. It was super easy! Give it a try.

I seriously didn't think I'd ever get to the finished product with this cake. I needed supplies and had to wait until my hubby got back from soccer practice with the two older boys so I could run to the store. 8pm is when I finally left home. I baked the first layer and it came out perfectly. After baking the second layer I tired to take it out of the pan and it was sticking so I went to turn the pan back over to go around the edges of the pan with a knife and it what wasn't stuck fell out and the rest stayed...yep, broke into pieces...Perfect! So I figure the first layer is thick enough so I can get away with not using another layer. So at midnight I climb into bed.

This morning I get to work. I have this sawlike cake leveler that I love. I set it to the thickness I want and slice away. I did notice that it was closer to the bottom of the cake than I had wanted but now I'm half way through and don't have a choice but to keep going. When I go to take the top layer off, I see that the cake leveler has cut it so crooked and with a giant hump in the middle, I can't even use that one! AWESOME!

I'm forced now to bake another cake anyway. Not only did I have to re bake, I ran out of powdered sugar and milk and had to run back to the store! Luckily I was able to get it baked and cooled and decorated by my 2pm deadline. So, here's Devin's Yankee's birthday cake. It's a 2 layer white cake with chocolate pudding in the middle and vanilla buttercream. The accents are done in fondant and buttercream. There's also larger fondant baseballs around the sides of the cake (I can't stand to wait another 20 minutes to upload the pic).

I searched the internet and searched and searched. So annoying that I'm on dial up and EVERYthing takes forEVER! I couldn't find things I liked that were free, let's face it, I'm cheap! Or frugal...that sounds better. After all, I'm raising 3 growing boys on 1 income...I don't have a choice but to be cheap. So I got the name of a blog designer from my friend at Momma D's. Check out her blog and read all about her testosterone filled world. I thought her blog design was very cleaver and so I contacted Sheila to get started on my own. Extremely reasonable and really nice work, sooo worth it!

I knew what I wanted, or so I thought. That is until Sheila started asking questions about colors, backgrounds, patterns, fonts, images...SERIOUSLY?, I have NO idea what I want! So after doing some research, I came across the cutest felt cupcake! I contacted the maker of this sweet felt creation, Donna to ask permission to use her image in my blog design. This is Brendan's graduation cake. I made the mortarboard with a cake I baked in a Pampered Chef batter bowl and a piece of cardboard covered with wax paper and frosting. The tassel was made by adding green and white fondant into a PC garlic press. The badges on either side were for the fire department he was a member of and the NYS police. This was a 2 layer vanilla cake with homemade bavarian cream and strawberries.

This is my favorite cake ever! I had so much fun making all the different elements of this cake for Ryan. I made a 2 layer 3 tier vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and covered them with fondant.

Starting at the top, I made a marblized black and white sheet of fondant and cut out the letters of his name.

Then I layed a football on top. Hanging off the side was his football jersey. He is an ESPN fan, so I made the ESPN logo out of fondant and added that to the front. One of his favorite shows on TV is Lost, so I made a little Lost scene with palm trees and sand. I made a red heart with his and his girlfriends initials inside. I made a cool black cross outlined with red. Standing in the front is my pirate cat made out of fondant. Ryan was in advanced photography classes in high school, so i made a camera out of fondant also. Attached to the cake next to that is a diploma. I also added a basketball,
